Reducing Indwelling Urinary Catheter Use

Indications for indwelling urinary catheter:

acute urinary retention or bladder outlet obstruction
accurate urinary output (strict I & O) in critically ill patients
perioperative use in selected surgical procedures
open sacral or perineal wounds
prolonged immobilization (e.g.-trauma/burns)
comfort for end-of-life care
