The inpatient hospital environment is complex and unpredictable.  Healthcare professionals, from a variety of disciplines and often dispersed over several locations, are involved in providing care at various times throughout an inpatient’s stay. This system creates gaps in care, impacts safety of the patient and the provider, and limits opportunities for smooth interactions.  Providers need an approach to the assessment and management of the high- acuity hospitalized patient utilizing the most recent practice guidelines, medical evidence and standards of care, while striving to interact together in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
